Digital_Assets_Construction Updates Header_1

We're improving and transforming the airport through our Journey With AUS program! Construction work in the terminal may be visible to passengers as we make improvements. Current terminal construction activities are below.

Updates

Beginning January 7, 2026

Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees will have a new route. Drivers will now turn left onto Metal Road instead of continuing on Emma Browning Avenue.

Project

This new reroute for Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees supports the construction of the New Midfield Taxiways, one of the Journey With AUS expansion program projects.

Activity

Beginning January 7, Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees will turn left onto Metal Road instead of continuing on Emma Browning Avenue.

There will be no changes to access the Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) or the South Terminal.

Please watch your speed and follow construction signage as you take this new route.

Beginning April 1, 2026

Beginning April 1, 2026, all Allegiant and Frontier flights will operate from the Barbara Jordan Terminal instead of the South Terminal, bringing all AUS commercial airline operations under one roof to create a more streamlined experience for travelers.

Project

The closure of the South Terminal on March 31, 2026, allows for the development of the New Midfield Taxiways project, an essential component of the Journey With AUS program. These new taxiways will improve aircraft movement across the airfield, reduce congestion, and enhance overall operational efficiency. Completing this project also enables future expansion initiatives, including the planned 26-Gate Concourse B and connecting tunnel, which will add gate capacity and improve connectivity for passengers.

Activity

Prior to opening the new Concourse B, AUS will construct and open Concourse M. Both the new Midfield Taxiways and Concourse M are located where the South Terminal facility is located, which is why the airport must close the operation and remove the structure.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, consolidating all airline operations into the Barbara Jordan Terminal creates a more unified and convenient passenger experience, with centralized access to ticketing, security screening, dining, shopping, and amenities.

Week of November 3 - early 2026

Blue Garage Exit to Experience Overnight Closures

Project

Starting in the early morning hours of the week of November 3, from 1 a.m. - 8 a.m., the Blue Garage exit ramp will be closed. The closure will occur while crews begin building a ramp for the Yellow Garage project. The closure is expected to last through early 2026.

Activity

For employees and passengers who use the Blue Garage exit ramp overnight during this time, traffic will be redirected to the second floor, then down to the first floor, continuing along the right side of the first level, and exiting on the south side of the Blue Garage.

Passengers will use the Red Garage toll booth to exit.

Please use caution as you exit the Blue Garage during those times and follow detour signs that lead you to the first floor of the Blue Garage and to an alternative exit.

While the closure will not be in effect every night, we ask drivers to anticipate the change and be prepared for the detour.
