Traveler Info: Construction Updates
We're improving and transforming the airport through our Journey With AUS program! Construction work in the terminal may be visible to passengers as we make improvements. Current terminal construction activities are below.
Updates
Beginning August 11, 2026
Presidential Boulevard Traffic Pattern Changes
Project
Please be aware of an upcoming change to the traffic pattern on Presidential Boulevard that may affect your route around the airport. Thank you for your patience as we continue construction for the Yellow Garage as part of the Journey With AUS program.
Activity
For approximately 30 days, starting the morning of August 11, the far-left lane leading to the return loop exit ramp on Presidential Boulevard, after passing the Barbara Jordan Terminal, will be closed. The exit to the return loop will remain open during this work.
To maintain access to the airport exit return loop, the adjacent left lane will be restriped to allow drivers to either continue straight toward the airport exit or make an optional left turn to return to the Barbara Jordan Terminal.
Drivers should follow all posted signage and use caution as they navigate the updated traffic pattern.
Beginning January 7, 2026
Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees will have a new route. Drivers will now turn left onto Metal Road instead of continuing on Emma Browning Avenue.
Project
This new reroute for Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees supports the construction of the New Midfield Taxiways, one of the Journey With AUS expansion program projects.
Activity
Beginning January 7, Air Traffic Control Tower and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting employees will turn left onto Metal Road instead of continuing on Emma Browning Avenue.
There will be no changes to access the Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) or the South Terminal.
Please watch your speed and follow construction signage as you take this new route.
Ongoing - 2026
Blue Garage Exit to Experience Intermittent Overnight Closures
Project
From 1 a.m. - 8 a.m. the Blue Garage exit ramp will be closed intermittently. The closure will occur if crews need the Blue Garage exit ramp area to work on the Yellow Garage project. The intermittent overnight closures are expected to last through 2026.
Activity
For employees and passengers who use the Blue Garage exit ramp overnight during this time, traffic will be redirected to the second floor, then down to the first floor, continuing along the right side of the first level, and exiting on the south side of the Blue Garage.
Passengers will use the Red Garage toll booth to exit.
Please use caution as you exit the Blue Garage during those times and follow detour signs that lead you to the first floor of the Blue Garage and to an alternative exit.
While the closure will not be in effect every night, we ask drivers to anticipate the change and be prepared for the detour.
Ongoing - 2026

Also included in the project scope are the replacement of 12 current gate boarding bridges and the creation of 3 new gates to offset gate closures during future expansion projects.
