Airport Workers Day - Celebrating Airline Workers at AUS
Every successful journey begins long before passengers board their flights. Behind the scenes, thousands of dedicated workers keep operations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) running smoothly, safely and efficiently each day. On June 25, 2026, AUS will proudly celebrate Airport Workers Day, recognizing and honoring the invaluable contributions of the individuals who make air travel possible.
Each day, more than 45,000 flights carry about 2.9 million passengers through U.S. airspace, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, a system made possible by thousands of aviation professionals across the country, including those at AUS.
In this blog, we shine a spotlight on the dedicated airline workers who help keep operations at AUS moving each day. From assisting passengers to supporting airport and airline partners, these team members play a vital role in delivering a safe, reliable and welcoming travel experience.
The People Who Keep Air Travel Moving
With 18 commercial airlines operating at AUS, airline workers across multiple teams help keep operations running safely and efficiently each day. From gate agents and customer service representatives to baggage handlers, ramp crews and airline operations teams, their work touches nearly every part of the passenger experience.
AUS is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, currently ranked the fourth-fastest-growing by airline seat capacity and the fastest-growing airport in Texas. During peak travel periods, AUS serves more than 37,000 departing passengers in a single day. Through it all, airline workers’ dedication and professionalism help connect people to the places and experiences that matter most.
When asked what makes working at the airport unique, Claudette Sevcenco, general manager of AUS Ground Operations for Southwest Airlines, noted, “Every day at the airport is different, and that’s what makes it truly unique. New challenges, exciting events and the opportunity to connect people to the things that are important to them.”
A similar sentiment was echoed by other airline team members and coworkers, who also shared their gratitude and appreciation for the people they work with each day. When asked, “Who would you like to give a shoutout to?” Paul Lauret, a pilot for Southwest Airlines, replied, “The absolutely amazing people we get to work with every day who take care of our customers. Their brilliance and dedication to safety and customer service make it really special.”
Recognizing Dedication and Service
Since the opening of AUS in 1999 with 31 nonstop destinations, AUS has grown to 87 nonstop destinations, an 180% increase that reflects decades of growth and the work of airline employees who make it all possible.
On Airport Workers Day and every day, we extend our gratitude to airline workers for their commitment to excellence. Their expertise, teamwork and dedication help keep passengers connected to destinations around the world while creating a positive travel experience for millions of passengers each year.
