Airport Workers Day: Celebrating General Aviation and Air Cargo Teams at AUS

For many travelers, the airport experience starts with a boarding pass, yet behind every departure and arrival is a network of professionals whose work extends well beyond the Barbara Jordan Terminal.

At Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), two critical divisions help keep the airport operating every day: the general aviation community and the air cargo operators. General aviation supports corporate, private, and charter flights, while air cargo operations ensure the vital and efficient movement of packages, freight, and time-sensitive shipments throughout the region and beyond. Together, these teams play an essential role in the airport’s success. From aircraft fueling and maintenance to cargo handling and logistics coordination, their expertise helps AUS remain connected, reliable, and operational 24 hours a day.

A Look at General Aviation and Air Cargo at AUS

General aviation also plays an important role in daily operations at AUS. With three fixed-base operators (FBOs) on campus, Atlantic Aviation Services, Signature Flight Support, and Million Air Austin, these teams help support private and business aviation activities across the airport.

Together, these operators support more than 40,000 general aviation flights each year.

Tim Shubert, Operations Manager at Signature Aviation, shared, “I love aviation, but I also love working with the team, and that's developing the team members and executing a successful operation.”

At Million Air, Customer Service Manager Amy Vazquez reflected on the variety of travelers she meets each day, sharing, “I welcome people here, from our mailman to you know, customers, entertainment that comes into town. We have a lot of tech coming into town. I just give them a warm smile, welcome them to Austin, and try to make them feel at home, and just give them that Southern hospitality.”

Behind the scenes, Airline Cargo Operations workers also play a vital role in keeping Central Texas connected. Each year, more than 276 million pounds of freight and mail move through AUS, handled by airline and cargo teams working to ensure packages, supplies, and essential goods reach our community.

Recognizing Dedication and Service

This Airport Workers Day, June 25th, 2026, we celebrate the dedicated professionals across general aviation and air cargo whose contributions often happen behind the scenes but are fundamental to keeping AUS running smoothly every single day.
